Bills Sink Dolphins

When the Bills beat Miami 17-14 this week, I had two reactions. First: Fabulous! Now I can enjoy Football Night in A-mer-i-caaa without sulking. Second: Fabulous! But why couldn’t they do that this week AND Week 1 when I spent $250 plus God knows how much more on gas, alcohol, etc. to see them. Not great!
So now Buffalo is 4-10…and what does that mean? Since I have a bizarre affinity for “8′s,” you know what’s coming–yes, a list of what I know.
1.) Four wins isn’t glamorous, but it’s better than zero (for my sanity and the team’s). What I like to refer to as “fake Bills fans” are bitching about how “ohh, now we’re gonna lose that No.1 draft pick and blah blah blah, boo hoo hoo.” Get over it! Your job as a fan is to root for your team to win, not lose. If you’re willing to throw away your dignity, wish more criticism upon and further tarnish the reputation of a team you claim to “love,” then there’s something seriously wrong with you.
2.) Despite what numbers say or people think, many Bills are nearing some milestone stats. Like Stevie Johnson who going into Sunday’s game needed 126 receiving yards for his first 1,000-yard receiving season. He had 69 this week, so he should easily reach his mark after next week’s game. Freddy J needed 34 yards from scrimmage before this week to claim his second straight season with 1,000 yards. According to buffalobills.com, he had 36 yards on 15 attempts. Lindell needed three field goals to post 250 in his career. With one this week, it shouldn’t be a problem reaching or surpassing that number by the end of the season.
3.) My #83 was out and won’t return. *slow teardrop trickles down* He’s my buddy…even if he doesn’t know it. Young receivers like Nelson, Jones and Roosevelt stepped up nicely and Stevie Johnson fit his role of No.1 receiver naturally, but it still wasn’t the same. ![]()
4.) Even though we have 4 wins, don’t forget we have 10 losses. That has caused severe undereye wrinkle-age/circles that aren’t great! I’m sure the beatings I receive from my coworkers every Monday morning don’t help.
5.) Ryan Fitzpatrick had another 200+-yard game, with 223 passing and 19 rushing. His QB rating puts him 19th in the league and while it’s no Michael Vick or Drew Brees status, Fitz is rapidly proving that he’s a force on this team. Everyone’s saying he’s not the “QB of the future” but I mean, he could be the QB of the next season. Maybe the trick is to stop with the merry go round quarterback situation and let one guy actually grow into his position, which is exactly what Fitz is doing.
6.) We’ve got the same record as two other teams and have a better record than three others. Yay for not being last anymore!
7.) We crushed the dreams of one of our rivals by knocking Miami out of the playoff race. If we could do that to New England and then the Jets, my life would be complete. I’m telling you, I would give anything to see the camera pan to Sanchez trying his hardest not to cry on the sidelines. You know what I’m talking about…he gets that look.
8.) Every win is usually accompanied by some ridiculously risky Fitz throw, monster Stevie moments (and bomb TD dances) or beastly Jackson action…which ups my chances of reliving the good moments on Sportscenter. Ahh, it’s the little things in life that please me.

Bills DONT Squish the Fish

Sunday’s game wasn’t great. Not only did we lose to Miami (15-10), we lost at home. Somehow, those losses always hurt the most. It hurts even more when you’re there. I def left the Ralph a mixture of disturbed, depressed, embarrassed, with a strange feeling of contentment because I saw some good friends and pleasure because of my free reusable Bills shopping bag/the beads this drunk mess presented me with…all topped off with bleeding blisters on both ankles and that “drank a lot really fast, super early, but had to stop to sober up” headache. It wasn’t one of my best moments.
We’ll start with the good:
-Our run game…emerged. And by emerged, I mean you could tell we had solid RBs, they just never got into a rhythm. Why not? Oh, I don’t know, maybe it had something to do with the fact that three were being rotated in and out and all around. Keep it at one with a back up and call it a day. You know who I vote to bid farewell to.
-Our defense-once again-carried us. I was going to give them a C+ but my dad said to be nice so I’ll give them a solid B. Their run defense improved significantly from last season and the pass rush was actually fairly decent, keeping Brandon Marshall relatively dull. I mean, Miami did only score 13 points (we GAVE them the safety) so this was basically a game of who sucked more. In this case, we did.
-Brian Moorman and Rian Lindell were fab as usual. Roscoe Parrish managed to hang on to the ball.
This was the problem:
-Trent Edwards should not be starting QB. Before you all virtually beat me up (or verbally berate me), I’ll say it again: I’m sure he’s a nice guy and that’s good and dandy, except we’re not having a tea party or playing Connect Four, we’re playing football and nice doesn’t matter between 1 and 4 p.m. It’s not his fault. Those concussions did him in, he’s never been the same since, and it’s about time someone else BESIDES LITTLE OLD ME accepted this and did something about it. Seriously, how many chances is the guy gonna get? If Gailey was hellbent on going with Trent as starting QB, fine, but by the time halftime rolled around and he saw how horribly pathetic his performance was, why would you keep him in? Pull him out and give Ryan Fitzpatrick a shot. He’s the one that kept us KIND of together last season…who at least TRIED to connect with Lee Evans and Terrell…who wasn’t afraid to throw the ball farther than 5 yards. Trent just dumped the ball play after play after play. That’s a waste of our receiving talent, namely, my Lee. When it’s the fourth quarter and you’re already down, why do you hand it off on a 3rd and 14?! If someone can explain the logic there, I’m willing to listen.
I’ve been kind enough to provide some musical insight into this dilemma, in the hopes that the coaches and Trent lovers can hop off the Trent bandwagon in a timely fashion. “You cry if you want to/that’s what we all do/but if you think you’ll never move on/wrong baby wrong…there’s nothin’ wrong with movin’ on when you know he’s good and goneeee.” Trent is gone and it’s OK to move on guys, I promise.
Yeah, it sucks to lose but after the initial disturbance wore off, I realized that we really weren’t in as bad shape as it seems. The Dolphins’ stats weren’t exactly stellar either and I honestly think we would have won it if Fitzpatrick was throwing the ball.
All hope is not lost, it’s only the first game. I don’t sound positive, but I am, and you should be too.
And another plus: Bills Chick made it out of there without a single confrontation and a minimal number of awkward exchanges with overly assertive men.
Next week the Bills head to Green Bay. It should be…interesting.

Greg Camarillo Traded by Miami Dolphins

The Vikings acquired receiver Greg Camarillo from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for cornerback Benny Sapp on Wednesday, one day after signing veteran free agent Javon Walker. The deal is contingent upon both players passing a physical.
When asked for comment about the trade, Camarillo told ESPN 760 in West Palm Beach, Fla.: “Yeah, it’s crazy. I hate to be rude but I don’t have time for interviews. I have to move my whole life.”
Minnesota has little choice: Pro Bowler Sidney Rice will miss at least the first half of the season after having hip surgery Monday, and Percy Harvin hasn’t practiced much because of recurring migraines, leaving Brett Favre without his top two targets with just two weeks left in the exhibition season.
Camarillo rebounded from a torn ACL in 2008 to catch 105 passes for 1,165 yards and two touchdowns over the last two years. He is more of a slot receiver than a deep threat, which would make him a more realistic fit to replace Harvin than the 6-foot-4 Rice, whose leaping ability and athleticism contributed to a breakout season last year.
The sure-handed Camarillo did not drop a pass last season.
“We have to get on board together rather quickly, obviously,” Favre said after practice on Wednesday, referring to a handful of new receivers he has to get to know before the Sept. 9 season opener. “It will be tougher. I’m not going to sit here and lie to you. It will be tougher than we had hoped. So we’ve got our work cut out for us.”
Harvin returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since he collapsed during practice last week. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital, remained there overnight and did not travel with the team to San Francisco for the preseason game on Sunday night.
Harvin had some additional tests performed this week, but it is still impossible to predict when the headaches will surface and tests are still being done. He missed one game during the regular season last year but still racked up more than 2,000 total yards and won the AP offensive rookie of the year award.
In Miami, Camarillo became expendable with the offseason acquisition of Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall. The Dolphins also have Brian Hartline and Davone Bess at receiver.
“It happened to work out good for both teams,” Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said. “I don’t think from our standpoint you give away a Greg Camarillo if you don’t feel like you’re getting value in return. And vice versa.”
Camarillo was a starter the past two years. Last season he made 50 catches for 552 yards and no touchdowns. He’ll be best remembered in Miami for his 64-yard touchdown catch in overtime against the Baltimore Ravens for the Dolphins’ lone victory in 2007.
“In the NFL, you have to be ready for trades at any time,” Camarillo’s agent, J.R. Rickert wrote in a text. “This is a great opportunity for Greg to play with one of the best quarterbacks ever.”
Sapp will provide depth for Miami at cornerback behind second-year starters Vontae Davis and Sean Smith. Veteran cornerback Will Allen is coming back from knee surgery and recently underwent a follow-up arthroscopic procedure, and he’s expected to be sidelined until at least the end of the exhibition season.
Sapp played in all 16 games for Minnesota last season and started seven when Antoine Winfield went down with a foot injury. He filled in admirably but fell behind youngsters Asher Allen and Chris Cook early in training camp in the race for the nickel job.
“You get a guy that has some position flexibility,” Sparano said of Sapp. “He’s played corner and started some games at corner in this league, handled a large number of plays last season, played in some playoff games and also plays inside in the nickel. I think he has a little bit of position flex in that way and plays special teams.”
